Logotherapy and Existential analysis is a school of psychotherapy founded by Viktor E. Frankl, MD, PhD, Professor of Psychiatry, University of Vienna, Austria.

He wrote more than 30 books, some of them are available in English. They reflect the style of his medical practice from 1930 to 1970. Proposesing his own diagnostic classification of mental disorders.

Although, logotherapy and existential analysis can be learned through self-study, the guidance of an instructor is recommended, to relate it to current standards of practice.

The books Logotherapy Revisited: Review of the Tenet's of Viktor E. Frankl's Logotherapy (2012), by Maria Marshall and Edward Marshall, presents logotherapy and existential analysis in the framework of modern diagnostic and therapeutic terminology.

Viktor E. Frankl, visited Canada on a number of occasions:

1962, attended the Existential Psychiatry Conference in Toronto. The presentation, Existential Dynamics and Neurotic Escapism, was published in his book Psychotherapy and Existentialism (1967).

1968, presented at the University of Ottawa, on the The Role of Education in an Age of Meaninglessness, and at the Hayward Lectures, Acadia University, Nova Scotia.

1972, presentation on The Youth in Search for Meaning at the University of Toronto.

1977, lecture at Massey Hall, University of Toronto, on the same title of his book The Unheard Cry for Meaning (1978), and participated as key note speaker with Hans Seyle, MD,at the Sports Coaching Conference, Montreal.

1980, invited by Balfour Mount, MD, to the Palliative Care Conference at the Royal Victoria Hospital, McGill University, Montreal. This was the last time Viktor E. Frankl visited Canada.
